Imports Specialist

Description

Import Operations:

  • Coordinate inbound shipments, including scheduling, booking, and tracking consignments.
  • Ensure accurate preparation and submission of all import-related documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and packing lists.
  • Collaborate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers to resolve shipment issues and ensure timely delivery.
  • Monitor and maintain import records to ensure accuracy and audit readiness.

Compliance & Regulatory Requirements:

  • Stay updated on international trade laws, tariffs, and import regulations.
  • Ensure all import shipments comply with applicable customs laws, import restrictions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and track required import licenses, permits, and certifications.
  • Coordinate with customs authorities and clearing agents for smooth clearance of goods.

Inventory & Supply Chain Coordination:

  • Track incoming shipments to ensure accurate inventory visibility.
  • Coordinate with procurement and warehouse teams for timely receipt and storage of goods.
  • Identify and recommend cost-effective logistics and transportation solutions.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain comprehensive records of import activities, including shipment schedules, freight costs, and customs documentation.
  • Prepare periodic reports on shipment status, costs, and compliance metrics for management review

Vendor Management & Communication:

  • Liaise with suppliers and logistics partners to resolve discrepancies and provide shipment updates.
  • Negotiate freight rates and service terms with carriers and freight forwarders to optimize costs and service levels.
Qualification

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.

Required Skills

Technical Skills:

  • Good understanding of import procedures and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to manage shipments and clearance processes.
  • Basic analysis of logistics data to control costs.
  • Proficient in record-keeping and MS Office/ERP systems.

Behavioral Skills

  • Strong coordination with internal teams and external partners.
  • Ability to resolve shipment issues and delays effectively.
  • High attention to detail in documentation and compliance.
  • Good communication and negotiation skills.

Experience

Minimum 3-5 years in Import & Export function
